The University of Sheffield is one of the original ‘red brick’ universities, a member of the prestigious Russell Group of research institutions and a provider of world class higher education. The QS World University Ranking 2021 put it in the top 100 of world universities.

The university was founded in 1905 after the merger of three colleges. It now enrols students from across the globe. Its 28,000 undergraduates and postgraduates represent more than 125 countries. They appreciated the university for access to a range of clubs, events, activities and comprehensive support. Sheffield’s Student’s Union is a four time winner of the Student Choice Award from 2017 to 2020. Along with that, a Times survey placed the university first for student experience.

The university’s academic activities are spread across five faculties offering hundreds of courses and academic disciplines. The University of Sheffield is a leading education institution in such areas as stem cell technology, system engineering and smart materials. It partners with a variety of technology companies including Rolls-Rolls, The Welcome Trust and Boeing, which invest in research and nurturing young talents. Overview

As the fifth largest UK city, Sheffield is lively, multicultural and welcoming. It has managed to retain a big village vibe. The vast and beautiful countryside is available just outside the city to explore. 2019 NatWest Student Living Index placed Sheffield in the top ten most affordable places and government statistics recognise it as one of the safest cities to live in. Sheffield is located in the very heart of the UK, which makes it a great starting point for journeys across the country. It is two hours from London and one hour from Manchester by train.

The University of Sheffield is not a campus university but all of its buildings are located in close proximity of each other. A mile-long stretch of buildings belonging almost exclusively to the university lies just one mile from the city centre.

The university provides almost 6,000 places in its halls of residence. Accommodation is guaranteed to all international undergraduate students in their first year at the university. Housing options are represented by rooms with en-suites and shared kitchens, flats with shared bathrooms, studio apartments and deluxe rooms.

Students are well cared for at the University of Sheffield. They have access to English Language Teaching Centre providing language classes, International Support Service, International Student Advisor and a designated personal tutor.
