Lancaster professor receives prestigious Humboldt Prize


Hans Gellersen, Professor of Interactive Systems in Lancaster University’s School of Computing and Communications, has been awarded a 2022 Humboldt Prize.

 

The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation of Germany awards these prizes to internationally renowned scientists and scholars from all disciplines in recognition of their career research achievements.

Recipients are researchers whose fundamental discoveries, theories or findings have had a lasting effect on their discipline beyond their immediate research area.

Professor Gellersen is known internationally for his research in the fields of Ubiquitous Computing and Human-Computer Interaction, Recently, he was also awarded an ERC Advanced Grant for his work on Gaze and Eye Movement in Interaction.

The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation sponsors distinguished international scientists and scholars irrespectively of their academic discipline or nationality and maintains an international network of academic cooperation and trust.

Recipients of the award are granted 60,000 Euros and invited to carry out research projects of their own choice in cooperation with research colleagues in Germany. Professor Gellersen plans to collaborate with Professor Bulling at the University of Stuttgart on advances in gaze-based human-computer interaction.

Professor Gellersen said:

The award by the Humboldt Foundation is wonderful recognition for my team’s research. My goal is to advance human-computer interfaces that better reflect the central role of gaze and eye movement for interaction and navigation in 3D. Professor Bulling and I have long shared an interest in gaze-based interaction and I am looking forward to expand our collaboration.
